Gale Virtual Reference

I am using this all the time for reference questions now. It is fantastic. Topics like the Olympic Games in Ancient Greece...mostly for school project topics. It's my "go to" databse now and I feel so confident that I will find information on the topic, no matter what it is. I'm so glad that I got to use this and get familiar with it.

Videohound and GVRL

I used the Videohound book to look up a favorite movie. I had forgotten the title, but it was directed by Steven Spielberg, so I found it under his name as the director. Then, I went to Videohound in GVRL and put in Steven Sielberg and didn't find the movie. I found it under its name.....I have to try again and see what the story is. Oh, the movie is: "Emperor of the Sun."

Gale virtual reference

Holy Cow! I've been looking through all of the contents of this database and I'm amazed. I was just looking at all of the information about Colonial America since kids here in Barnegat just finished working on projects about this period in American History. I will definitely use it often when I'm at the reference desk and I want to show my staff the contents during a staff meeting. I enjoyed the article about hairstyles of the 60s. I had to see how accurate it was, since I lived through that era. I didn't see anything about "falls". I just have to add that this is somewhat overwhelming. It's getting into the right mindset...this is a collection of books, not a collection of information. Look for th book that will have the information that you want.....

laptop and projector

We had a staff meeting at the Barnegat branch today and I set up the laptop and projector and showed pictures from a DVD that Larry Meeghan gave to us. He was here at Ocean County Day and took beautiful photos. The staff got to see all of them at the meeting. I also went to OceanNet and showed the staff how to get to the Strategic Plan and the Communication Plan. I also went to the Friends Page and played the TAB forum video that was there.

Listen NJ

I just spent an hour on the PcPlus trying to download an audio book onto my Ipod. It didn't work. I did have someone helping me, because it wasn't as simple as I thought. When I used an MP3 player for the tech challenge, it was fine. Anyway, I downloaded OverDrive...then we found out that I had to download iTunes.....then, in order to transfer the book to my iPod we were told to restart the computer, which we couldn't do because we would lose the downloads.....so, I never got the book onto my iPod and I wouldn't want to have to help a customer download onto an iPod at this point. According to Samantha, who was helping me it wouldn't work anyway. So, I'll find an MP3 player and try that....

Ready for the branch managers' challenge.
